Add page visit and link clicking tracking to plugin

I am currently making a plugin that needs to be able to pull the page visit statistics and link clicking statistics in order to display them in an admin interface. I have the pages being assigned to variables as well as the links (all being done in custom meta boxes within my custom post type). My though process was “just pull the stats and save them in a variable and echo that number where needed.” I am pretty sure this is going to take a lot of JavaScript and cookies but I am unsure of where to start. I can provide information as needed and as always, any help will be greatly appreciated.
